The ECOP Initiative: Connecting, Learning, and Leading in Ocean Science
Organised by the Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) National Node - India
In collaboration with the Decade Collaborative Centre - Indian Ocean Region (DCC-IOR)
during 05-06 June, 2025


Overview:

This workshop will explore the critical role of Early-Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) in achieving sustainable ocean development. It will align discussions with the challenges and outcomes of the UN Ocean Decade and introduce key initiatives of ECOP India. The workshop will also highlight the work of two specialized working groups:
Ocean Literacy — Emphasizing the importance of public engagement, education and awareness in ocean science
and Blue Carbon & Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) — Addressing the problems and providing solutions to mitigate climate change through ocean based carbon sequestration. It will provide networking space for participants to exchange ideas, collaborate on future projects and strengthen their contribution to ocean science and policy.

Aims & Objectives:

  • To introduce the ECOP India National Node, its objectives, and future roadmap.
  • To align ECOP initiatives with the challenges and outcomes of the UN Ocean Decade.
  • To create awareness about the Ocean Literacy and Blue Carbon & mCDR working groups.
  • To facilitate networking and collaborations among ECOPs, senior researchers, and youth leaders.

Workshop Prerequisites:

  • You must be an Indian National residing in India.
  • You must be an ECOP to participate in this workshop. If you are not, sign up to become a member of the global ECOP registry.Link Here

Target Audience:

Target audiences include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Post graduate students in any discipline.
  • Ph.D. scholars in oceanography and allied fields.
  • Ocean Professionals.

Financial support:

Travel (3rd A.C. railway fare on reimbursement basis), accommodation, meals, internet connectivity, and office and recreational facilities will be available for participants at no cost, provided by INCOIS.
