Course Overview:

The aim of this introductory course is to provide a broad-based training in the tools and techniques that are quite basic to analysis data that arise in several application areas. Topic covered will include the following:

• Confluence of Data Science and AI/ML
• Sources of Big data
• Mathematical challenges in big data analysis
• Classification – clustering algorithms – Unsupervised learning
• Dimension Reduction – deterministic method – PCA based analysis, Randomized technique based on random projections
• Modelling – least squares method, ridge regression
• Introduction to ANN

Aims and Objectives:

The objective of this training is to impart skills needed to analyse various big data problems that arise in different application areas within Geosciences and Earth sciences.

Learning Outcome:

To formulate and analyse data using various classification and other techniques of Data Science.

Target Audience:

Target audience is limited to the following:

• Students pursuing their masters,
• Researchers in various scientific organizations and
• Scholars working in the areas of data science covering board areas of Geosciences including Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences.
