"Understanding Sea Level: data analysis and applications"
during Oct 12 - 14, 2020
Organized by
International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography (ITCOocean)
ESSO-INCOIS, Hyderabad, India

Overview:

This course will demonstrate the usage and applications of sea level data for scientific research. The course will be a mix of practical and theoretical and will highlight on the active research areas of sea level science.

Aims and Objectives

  • To understand sea level variability and its impacts..
  • To provide an introduction to sea level data analysis.
  • Hands on sessions for analysing sea level data

Course contents:

The Lectures will cover the following topics:
  • General introduction to sea level observations.
  • Spatial and temporal variability in sea-level
  • Extreme sea level and future sea level projections.
Practical Sessions:
  • Sea level data processing and analysis of long term sea level changes .
  • FERRET based programs that can be executed online in any OS.
  • Analysis of results, assignments and discussions.

Target Audience

  • The training program is open to scientists, researchers and students involved in oceanographic work with specific reference to sea level and its applications.
  • The trainees are expected to have basic knowledge of oceanography along with basic computer skills. Preference will be given to the candidates pursuing their research or building a carrier in the above topics.
